Best Of: Cooking Tools for Kids | Part 2
Last week we shared a few of our favorite cooking tools in Part 1 of our blog post, The Best Cooking Tools for Kids.
Giving kids their own cooking tools can encourage them to get involved in the kitchen. Getting kids involved in the kitchen can encourage them to be better eaters. 5 reasons why involving kids in cooking is a recipe for success
Check out Part 2 of our top kid-friendly cooking tools:
Ikea Chosigt Grater w/ Container This grater comes with two different grater tops, one for fine and one for medium grating. The grating tops fit directly onto the bowl below it to easily catch any cheese, veggies or other that you are grating. Easily store any leftovers in the container with the airtight storage lid. The bowl has a rubberized bottom that grips well to the counter for added stability.
Stainless Steel Mini Potato Masher Kids love being in charge of mashing - avocado, potatoes, black beans, etc. This mini potato masher is perfect for small hands to help out in the kitchen. Try it with our Stamppot (Mashed Potato) recipe from our “trip” to the Netherlands in our Around the World eBook or our Appledillas from our Fresh Eats eBook. We also really love this masher from Kitchen Innovations.
Mealthy Pot We call it our Kitchen Hero! We use it for everything from quickly steaming veggies for class to creating the most perfect jammy eggs in minutes. This pot is our go-to for many jobs - it’s a pressure cooker, slow cooker, steamer, rice cooker, yogurt maker, saute pan and more, all-in-one.
Cookie Cutters When cooking with kids having cookie cutters on hand in all shapes and sizes is key for fun & creativity. Use the cutters to cut shapes into fruits, veggies, sandwiches, cheese, etc. We love these double-sided nesting cutters as well as these mini cutters. Use them to make our Everything Crackers w/ Broccomole from our Fresh Eats eBook.
Cusinart Smart Stick Hand Blender Great for pureeing soups, emulsifying dressings, whipping meringues and more. Upgrade to the cordless version (currently on our #wishlist).
TruChef Kids Onion Goggles There’s no crying in the kitchen! So how do you cut an onion without crying? We’ve tried all the tips and tricks out there but none of them worked until we found these awesome onion goggles from our friends at TruChef Kitchen. These pint sized glasses magically fit our littlest chefs up to our teens, and even some of our teachers. They are comfortable due to a foam seal around the eyes that help protect the eyes from the onion fumes that cause tearing, stinging and irritated eyes. Bonus: our kid chefs look totally cool & stylish (and are more confident) while slicing, dicing, mincing and chopping onions. We also use them when prepping other members of the allium family - leeks, scallion, chives, shallots and garlic.
Pampered Chef Manual Food Processor This item is currently on our #wishlist! What we love about this is that it is completely manual which means it has no cords and needs no electricity - which is great when cooking with kids! Just add ingredients to the bowl and let kids pump away - create simple salsas, dips, purees and more.
Note about kitchen safety: children should always be supervised by a grown up when using any tools in the kitchen.
