Book Club: Our Favorite Children's Books about Pizza!

When we opened our studio in 2012 we knew we wanted to create an amazing book wall filled with storybooks about food to read with our students.

We spent hours in book stores posted up on the floor with piles of children’s books around us.  Sifting through the classics like Blueberries for Sal, The Carrot Seed, Bread and Jam for Frances and more while discovering new titles like The Mighty Asparagus, The Gigantic Turnip and Dumpling Soup.  We were amazed by the amount of wonderful children’s books there were that illustrated such a wide variety of topics like eating well, teaching how food grows, where food comes from, who cooks it, the culture of food, and other food-related topics.

Over the past 7+ years we have added hundreds of children’s story books about food to our book wall and rotate titles seasonally.

Storybooks about food are a focal point in our early childhood classes for ages 2 to 4, specifically our Little Chefs class and our Storybook Cooking class, but our loved by our students of all ages.

Storybooks about food are a great way to tie the cooking activity and help build a connection between the ingredients they have just used, the actions they have taken to prepare the food and the end result of the meal they have created and are about to eat.

Each month we will share some of our favorite storybooks about food on the blog.  This month we are starting with our favorite children’s books about one of our favorite foods…
